Jonathan Gaspard

As a UX Designer, I dig deep to fully understand a user so that I can design products with creative, simple solutions to enable a user to achieve his goals within an application or website. As a Psychology nerd, I have a natural drive to understand people better: what they think, why they think that, and how that influences who they are today.

My B.S. in Psychology from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette was my first step within this desire to understand the processes that make people tick. This experience gave me the fundamental base from which all my later work and curiosities spun. For the next 12.5 years, I created experiences for customers as a flight attendant where I had amazing opportunities to engage with and appreciate many people, ideas, cultures, and identities. This travel allowed me to see and think with different world-views and perspectives. It performs wonders when understanding others, mediating, resolving conflict, or playing “Devil’s Advocate.”

The passions that excite me when I wake up each morning are the opportunities to make a difference and put good things out into the world. I am passionate about volunteering with HIV Services & Prevention non-profits. I love to work with organizations that combat LGBTQIA+ youth homelessness. I believe that major changes are needed to combat racial and social inequality. Don’t worry though, not all of my spare time is spent on serious social causes. I grew up on the bayous of south Louisiana so I can cook some mean Cajun food. My interest in baking has expanded and so has my waistline. I combat the expanding waistline with regularly participating in line-dancing, 2-step, and salsa dancing. At home, I have a wonderful Black Mouth Cur rescue named Coco, who reminds me daily what unconditional love is all about.

The past few years for me have been filled with great change, risk, and excitement. With a “Say YES!” attitude, I took advantage of every opportunity that presented itself. I said yes to marriage. I said yes to a layoff package in order to further my skills and pivot my career path to one that is more challenging and creative. I said yes to entering a UX Design Immersive course at General Assembly where I learned not only the fundamentals of UX/UI Design, but also had the opportunity to put these skills to action in a work-like setting. I said yes to relocating from Atlanta to the Miami/Fort Lauderdale metro area. Post-covid, I said yes to returning back to my ancestral roots in the Acadiana area of south Louisiana to be closer to family. Now that I am back settled into the Lafayette area, I look forward to continue saying yes, so present me with an amazing opportunity!

My Superpowers!

On the last day with my teammates in the User Experience Design Immersive Program at General Assembly, I was selected for the “Butterfly Award” for greatest growth throughout the program and my teammates wrote a collection of my superpowers!

Can you guess my spirit animal!?!?
